Kelzzia: Kelp Based Sustainable Fashion Brand

While visiting Colombia, I had the pleasure of meeting Peter D. Tuddenham, President of the College of Exploration. The College of Exploration is a nonprofit organization that partners with universities to promote ocean and systems literacy, focusing on marine ecosystems and understanding dynamic/complex systems. Our conversation quickly shifted to a shared interest in sustainable fashion, and we began exploring the idea of creating a sustainable clothing brand together.

We envisioned a line that would center around eco-friendly materials like bamboo, seaweed (kelp), and vegetal fibers harvested from cactus. The working title for the brand, Kelzzia, was inspired by our plan to incorporate kelp as a primary material in the fabric. Although the project did not progress due to high startup costs, we did connect with a sustainable kelp-based textile company and brainstormed ideas for a potential launch.

In this early stage, I designed the initial branding and website for Kelzzia, aiming to blend sustainability with elegance and a sense of luxury to reflect the premium nature of the materials. The design features clean lines, earth tones, and ocean-inspired elements, blending fashion and nature to achieve a refined ecoconscious brand.
